In-Field support now available with Marcelo Amaral
Congratulations to the soon-to-be Dr Marcelo Amaral on both the submission of his PhD and his transition into an independent consultancy role.
Marcelo is making strong contributions to the advancement of precision horticulture in Australia, particularly through his work in mango systems, crop monitoring, and field-based analytics. His expertise in agronomy, combined with strong practical field experience, plays an important role in bridging the gap between research and real-world farm application.
As part of this next stage in his professional journey, Marcelo is launching his own agronomy consulting services this season. He has availability to support mango growers and other tropical tree crop producers across the Bowen-Burdekin region. Marcelo will also be available for visits to other production regions, including Mareeba and Darwin, by prior arrangement depending on timing and travel logistics.
This expansion of independent agronomy support is a valuable addition to the industry at a time when growers are increasingly seeking integrated technical, agronomic, and data-driven decision support to improve productivity and resilience.
At the same time, Marcelo continues to work closely with Agricultural Robotics in his role as a Technology Field Specialist. Here, Marcelo supports mango growers through the deployment and use of advanced orchard technologies, including our Orion Orchard Imager and the orchard analytics platform FruitMaps.

What a great time to celebrate Marcelo’s achievements. This year marks the completion of his PhD, the launch of his agronomy consultancy, as well as continued contribution to applied agritech innovation for tropical fruit producers. To date, mango growers have particularly benefited from his hands-on support in the field, but Marcelo is also available to assist growers of other tropical tree crops. His unique combination of agronomic expertise and practical technology experience strengthens the connection between research, innovation, and real-world farm outcomes.
