Our autoharvester is set for in-field demonstration at Niceforo Farms this week. Following successful commercial mango-picking trials in Katherine, Agricultural Robotics will showcase its Orion MK4 Autoharvester in a working mango orchard on Tuesday 27 October 2026.

The in-field demonstration will take place at 6:00 pm at K2 Orchard, Niceforo Farms, Katherine, sharing the progress of robotic mango harvesting technology in real-world orchard conditions. The demonstration builds on successful field trials, with the autoharvester working to provide growers with a practical solution to seasonal labour challenges through robotic mango picking, including during daylight operation.

A Practical Response to Harvest Labour Challenges

Mango harvesting is labour-intensive, seasonal, and time-sensitive. For growers in regional and remote Australia, securing sufficient workers during peak harvest periods can present significant operational challenges. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) reported that 57% of Australian horticulture farms experienced recruitment difficulties in 2021to 2022. While labour availability has improved since COVID, seasonal workforce demands and productivity remain critical considerations for growers.

Robotic harvesting offers an opportunity to complement existing harvest teams. We want to show you can reduce dependence on manual picking and provide greater flexibility during critical harvest windows.

The all-Australian Orion MK4 Autoharvester integrates 12 robotic harvesting arms, machine vision, and intelligent harvest planning to identify and pick mangoes directly from the tree. The system also feature a digital dashboard supporting camera monitoring and robotic picking operations. Successful field picking for the model is an important development milestone. This season is demonstrating progress towards tech that can operate in the challenging and variable conditions of commercial orchards.

Developed with Growers, for Growers

The autoharvester forms part of Agricultural Robotics’ connected approach to orchard intelligence and automation:

DETECT. PREDICT. PLAN. HARVEST.

From understanding crop conditions and forecasting production to planning and ultimately automating harvesting, the Orion suite is designed to help growers make better-informed operational decisions. The demonstration marks another important step in new product commercialisation. We are highlighting the ORION MK4 Autoharvester’s progress in real-world orchard conditions and its potential to deliver practical value to growers through improved harvesting efficiency and reduced reliance on seasonal labour. Indeed the progress achieved in Katherine reinforces the potential for robotics to become a practical part of future orchard operations.

Helping growers address critical labour shortages.
